About The Position

Under direction, ensures that the needs and security of the assigned Court and building are efficiently and appropriately handled. Maintains order in the assigned Court, up to and including restraining violent individuals, maintaining daily records and other documentation, coordinating jury requirements, attending all hearings and proceedings conducted by the Judge to ensure security, legally possesses and carries a firearm, prevents and intervenes if/when inappropriate or unruly behavior is observed and attends to other miscellaneous Court duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test (GED)
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in law enforcement or directly related field
  • Possession of a valid Concealed Pistol License (CPL)
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel

Nice To Haves

  • College courses in Criminal Justice
  • Previous experience in a court environment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Effectively speak, write and understand a language other than English is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and ensures order and security in the assigned Court during proceedings.
  • Controls and/or physically restrains violent or combative individuals of varying height, weight and physical condition and/or takes such individuals into custody when necessary.
  • Secures individuals as ordered by the Court.
  • Escorts and attends to jurors during trials and proceedings as appropriate.
  • Calls cases for hearing, attends all hearing and proceedings conducted by the Judge to ensure security.
  • Serves Court papers and documents as assigned.
  • Secures building as required.
  • Assists with virtual hearings by operating Zoom and/or other virtual video communication platforms.
  • Records and maintains daily records and activities log including mileage, dockets and other documentation.
  • Prevents inappropriate activities and/or behavior and intervenes when inappropriate activities and/or behavior are observed.
  • De-escalates unruly and/or disruptive behavior.
  • Greets individuals desiring to enter a County operated facility and informs them that they must be screened prior to entry.
  • Abides by and complies with an established dress code and standards as required by the Court, including carrying a firearm.
  • Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
