About The Position

The Arlington County Treasurer’s Office is seeking a Court Collections Coordinator for its Compliance Division. The Court Collections Coordinator manages the complex process of litigation against delinquent taxpayers, as well as the accounts of taxpayers who have declared bankruptcy to ensure that the requirements of the bankruptcy court are met and that the taxes owed to Arlington County are preserved through the bankruptcy proceedings. This position also interfaces with the Arlington County General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations and Circuit Courts, as well as the Falls Church City Combined Courts, to manage the collection of court fines, fees and restitution. The primary goal of this position is to collect delinquent taxes and other debt owed to Arlington County to reduce the County's delinquency rate. Last year this position initiated over 5,000 Motions for Judgment and collected over $4.5 million owed to Arlington County. This position reports directly to the Enforcement Supervisor for Compliance. The Treasurer is an elected official accountable to the citizens of Arlington County. The Compliance Division includes a call center which handles over 50,000 calls per year, and an enforcement team which issues over 6,000 liens and asset seizures.

Requirements

  • Completion of the requirements for graduation from a standard senior high school or vocational school, a GED certificate, or the equivalent
  • Considerable experience in collections, law enforcement, and/or public administration
  • Additional education may be substituted for experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working directly with the public explaining policies, laws, and/or tax regulations to customers
  • Experience performing program support functions using complex computer systems
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially MS Excel and Word

Responsibilities

  • Managing the court process, including identifying accounts that are eligible for litigation, sending intent letters, and preparing and filing court documents for all accounts that remain delinquent
  • Managing the Bankruptcy program, including tracking case statuses and filing necessary paperwork in a timely manner
  • Managing the complex administrative duties of the Court Fines and Fees Collections Program, including managing file transfers to and from the Courts, inputting payments into the Courts proprietary system, and processing payment plans established by the Court
  • Maintaining accurate and timely reporting for the above-mentioned programs
  • Evaluating objectives, efficiency, and effectiveness of the processes
  • Assisting taxpayers over the phone and in person and acting as the subject matter expert for citizens and staff regarding Court Collections
