About The Position

SALARY RANGE: $39,511.00 - $57,438.00 The Trial Court Administrator's Office, 26th Judicial District, serving Mecklenburg County, seeks a qualified candidate to provide direct customer service in a busy front desk position and to perform a variety of duties in support of judges in the Judicial District.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures; general office procedures; grammar and punctuation; word processing; commonly used rules, procedures, or methods, to perform assignments.
  • Skills in: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • Ability to: screen communications and based on content, handle independently or route to proper destination; apply grammar and punctuation rules; type with accuracy and speed; spell accurately; use judgment in organizing and establishing document format; give basic information and instructions regarding programs or office based on inquires; operate office equipment such as copier, calculator, fax machine, computer, and telephones.
  • Graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal; or an Associate degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Clean criminal background is required.
  • Attach cover letter and résumé.

Nice To Haves

  • Management prefers an Associate degree in a related field and graduation from a Paralegal Certificate program, in addition to two years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal working in a courthouse or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, and Enterprise Justice is beneficial, as is experience conducting legal research.
  • At least an intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams is preferred.
  • The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who is detail oriented and has strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Screen callers and visitors, answer inquiries, secure and give information.
  • Screen and route mail according to contents of communication including email.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings and set up conference calls and/or video conference as needed.
  • Make travel arrangements and maintain administrative records for the office.
  • Copy, file, and retrieve materials and perform periodic follow-up activities.
  • Perform legal research and writing.
  • Compose and prepare materials including correspondence, reports, and legal documents.
  • Monitor and manage legal documents and cases via Enterprise Justice.
  • Act as a liaison to the public, attorneys, and other government agencies.
  • Take minutes of committee meetings and perform other general administrative responsibilities.
  • Order and distribute office supplies.
  • May prepare and distribute calendar and answer questions regarding status of cases.
