About The Position

Milwaukee County is seeking authentic individuals to join its team and contribute to the community. The County oversees a wide range of operations including an Airport, Behavioral Health, Child Support, Combined Court Operations, Sheriff's Department, Community Reintegration Center, Human Services, Parks, Public Safety, Public Works, Fleet Operations, Transportation, and the Zoo. It also provides services for Seniors, individuals with Disabilities, and Veterans. The organization is committed to serving the cultural, human, recreational, and social needs of the entire community and offers a diverse and versatile environment. This is a part-time, paid internship position with the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, the legislative branch of County government. The intern will be a student pursuing an education at a university or technical school, with a focus on public policy, political science, rhetorical leadership, public and non-profit administration, and/or law. The internship is planned for the Summer, lasting for one college semester, and involves working under twenty (20) hours per week. The schedule is flexible within business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work for county events. The paid intern(s) will report to the County Board Chairwoman and provide services to department and district Supervisory offices.

Requirements

  • Prioritize work assignments with moderate supervision
  • Balance assignments from multiple staff to support both district and departmental projects
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based applications
  • High school diploma and proof of current enrollment at a post-secondary school required
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to attend in person events or for in person work in the County Board office

Responsibilities

  • Support daily projects
  • Generate posts for official County Board social media
  • Attend committee meetings on behalf of the Board
  • Support County Supervisors with legislative projects related to public policy, constituent services, citations, and coordination of County Board presentations
  • Assist with constituent reports and events
  • Complete the process of sorting records for historical retention
  • Provide front desk reception services
