About The Position

The Counselor in training, under the supervision of a clinical supervisor or their designee, will provide counseling services for persons with substance use disorders and their families. This individual is a person working towards CADC certification who is gaining supervised experience in providing counseling, education, and support to clients with substance abuse issues and their families.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Related Field
• Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor (CADC) within 2 years - Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA)
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
• Knowledge of addiction, mental health, and substance use disorders

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, provide counseling services to patients and their families through individual and/or group settings.
• Identify concerns and make referrals to others when needed with guidance and support from supervisor
• Maintain accurate records and complete all forms, assessments and file management paperwork as directed
• Facilitate and effectively utilize evidence-based practices in individual and group counseling settings
• Complete ASAM based alcohol and drug assessments and develop treatment recommendations and plans with support of supervisor.
• Helps patients and families identify resources in their community which support ongoing recovery journey
• Participate in staff meetings and training opportunities
• Professionally communicate with referral sources and staff of partner agencies
• Participate in weekly supervision with clinical leaders to review cases, receive feedback and enhance skills/knowledge as a provider.
