About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Elementary School Counselor to join our educational team and provide essential guidance, support, and counseling services to students, teachers, and parents within our elementary school community. As an Elementary School Counselor, you will play a crucial role in promoting students' social-emotional development, academic success, and overall well-being.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State ESA (Educational Staff Associate) certification as a counselor or social worker.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping students overcome challenges.
  • Knowledge of child development, behavioral interventions, and counseling techniques.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
  • Organizational skills to manage a caseload of students and maintain accurate records.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license or evidence of mobility.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in working with elementary-aged children and diverse populations is preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in providing intervention support services in a team approach for students, staff and parents.
  • Teach skills in the classroom, or other group settings, concerning coping, social norms, physical and emotional survival, mediation, multi-cultural awareness, problem solving, and anti-bullying.
  • Provide staff and parent training in areas such as intervention techniques, learning types, behavior management, instructional approaches, attention deficits, at-risk characteristics, drug-affected children, child development and parenting skills.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary assessments for areas such as academic, intellectual, learning styles, behavioral, and social/emotional/health needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention and management support to students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to help with special education students, manage 504 plans and their needs.
  • Consult and collaborate with parents, school staff and outside agency personnel regarding mental health, behavioral, social/emotional and educational concerns, their implications and means of intervening.
  • Make home visits as needed.
  • Evaluate and record student progress with intervention plans.
  • Maintain data and process reports in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain professional competency through in-service education, coursework or professional growth activities.
  • Serve on staff committees as required.
  • Use computers and related technologies.
  • Must have excellent attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
