Ponca City Public Schools Job Description Counselor Reports to: Building Principal Supervises: N/A Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Counseling Oklahoma School Counselor Certification Job Goal: Provides a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades 9-12 to provide support to students, teachers, and parents to meet the academic and social needs of the students. Employment Terms: 10 Month Contract 7 Hour 20 Minute day, Exclusive of a (30) Minute Duty-free Lunch FLSA Classification: Exempt Evaluation: Annually by Site Principal Physical Demands: This is an overview intended for compliance with the ADA – it is not an exhaustive list of the duties to be performed. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling
  • Oklahoma School Counselor Certification

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with teachers to develop curriculum and present psychoeducation on pertinent topics.
  • Provides individual and group student guidance sessions as requested.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to community resources.
  • Counsel groups or individual students through the development of educational and career plans, including scholarship opportunities.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential files and records regarding services provided.
  • Works closely with administrators and resource officer dealing with high risk suicidal students.
  • Maintains updated graduation checks for onsite and offsite students.
  • Responsible for scheduling alphabetical groups of students assigned.
  • Consults with special services personnel regarding appropriate testing and interventions for special education students.
  • Regularly participate in appropriate professional development opportunities.
  • Utilizes professional behavior in all school related transactions.
  • Complies with all Federal, State and local laws and board policies and procedures.
  • Counsels small groups and individual students with problems; refers severe problems to appropriate community resources.
  • Coordinates state mandated testing program in conjunction with principal and assists with assessment responsibilities.
  • Conducts orientation meetings, College Night, Honors Night Programs, evening parent/school meetings and other parent/school information meetings.
  • Responds to crisis situations when appropriate.
  • Meets site and district staff development requirements.
  • Manages 504 caseloads for mental issues.
  • Performs all other tasks as supervisor may assign.
