About The Position

Provide developmentally appropriate activities related to nature, gardening, and environmental education for programs and camps that meet the needs and interests of the participants and aid in the greenhouse operations according to an established schedule.

Requirements

  • Age: 16 years and older
  • Education: Junior in high school or higher grade level.
  • Experience: Working with youth.
  • Knowledge: General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field.
  • General knowledge of day camp and after-school programs and services.
  • Specific knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth in nature and environmental programs.
  • License / Certification: Valid driver’s license required for programs including transportation, preferred if not including transportation.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year.
  • Provide proof of date of birth.
  • Provide a copy of driver's license or photo identification.
  • Provide driver's abstract if position duties require driving.
  • Submit to a reference check and employment verification.
  • Submit to a state criminal background check.
  • Submit to a pre-placement physical and drug screening if position will involve transportation of participants.
  • Submit to reasonable cause and post-accident alcohol and drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Some college desired especially in environmental studies.
  • Supervision of groups of youth in a recreational setting preferred.
  • Experience working in an outdoor or nature related setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, preparation, and implementation of programs.
  • Assist in the evaluation of programs and services in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Assist with the purchase, distribution, and maintenance of proper inventory of all supplies and materials within area of responsibility.
  • Establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers and parents.
  • Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
  • Conduct self in accordance with the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
  • Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed, and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
