About The Position

Nature United is an affiliate of the global organization The Nature Conservancy (TNC). The Controller is a key member of Nature United’s Finance & Operations team and will be responsible for the oversight and execution of all accounting activities. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the role is focused on the management, maintenance and reporting of financial data and monitoring of internal controls and processes to ensure compliance with policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices. The successful candidate will bring not only strong technical and problem-solving abilities but also strong collaboration and communication skills. The Controller will have support from within the department, centralized services from our global affiliate, as well as external collaborators. Are you looking for work you can believe in? We’re looking for someone with excellent technical accounting, analytical and communication skills, and experience in leading continuous improvement projects. You will work closely with others in the Finance department as well as more broadly supporting all staff across the organization to advance our strategic priorities and reimagine conservation in Canada. Requirements

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) of Canada designation
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination
  • Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations
  • Experience working across teams and communicating with a wide range of people
  • Experience working with ERP systems and financial accounting software
  • Experience evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls
  • Experience managing and implementing multiple projects

Responsibilities

  • Manage full‑cycle general ledger activities for both Canadian (ASPNO) and U.S entities (US GAAP), providing strategic oversight while performing key operational tasks such as journal entry preparation, miscoding corrections, and revenue allocations.
  • Lead monthly and year‑end close processes and ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting to support organizational decision‑making.
  • Development and oversight of year end activities for all Finance team, involving weekly meetings and ongoing follow-up.
  • Development/maintenance of working papers, ad hoc reporting and review packages for Director of Finance & Operations
  • Manage end‑to‑end payroll operations for staff, including preparing payroll inputs, coordinating with the external payroll provider, performing payroll accounting, and addressing employee inquiries related to wages and benefits.
  • Oversee timekeeping processes to ensure accurate and timely submission of hours and compliance with organizational policies.
  • Strengthen financial governance by overseeing internal controls, conducting policy research, and developing clear guidance for complex or ambiguous operational areas to ensure consistency, compliance, and continuous process improvement.
  • Serve as the primary end user and functional administrator for the organization’s financial ERP systems, overseeing configuration, maintenance, and optimization of finance‑related modules. Ensure system workflows and approval hierarchies are maintained in alignment with Delegation of Authority (DOA) requirements
  • Ownership of annual financial audit process and preparation of regulatory filing information
  • Technical lead for accounting research and due diligence projects
  • Ensure policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met for compliance
  • Oversee end‑to‑end cash and bank management, including daily cash positioning, liquidity forecasting and optimization of working capital to ensure adequate funding for operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with audit activities as needed
  • Support with corporate Tax filings such as T3010’s and T2’s.
  • Facilitate Internal audit and Tax reviews.
