COUNSELOR INTERN
About The Position
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and families? This hands-on Counselor Internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain meaningful, real-world experience in youth, family, and behavioral health services. Interns are immersed in treatment-oriented care, working alongside experienced professionals while developing practical skills essential for a future career in counseling, social work, or human services. Interns will actively participate in a dynamic learning environment that includes observation, supervised client interactions, and case management support. You’ll gain exposure to the full scope of services provided to children and families
Requirements
- Enrolled and in good standing with an accredited university in an approved program
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
- Physical exam including TB screening
- Required criminal clearances (State Police, FBI, and State Child Abuse)
- Successful completion of background and reference checks
- Basic computer proficiency
- Availability primarily Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends
Responsibilities
- Assist with home visits, court appearances, and family meetings
- Document contacts with parents, collaterals, and professionals
- Participate in team meetings, consultations, and group supervision
- Review case files, reports, and supporting documentation
- Transport youth and parents to appointments
- Assist with child abuse and neglect assessments
- Connect families with valuable community resources
- Observing and assisting with client assessments in real-life settings
- Identifying client strengths, needs, and goals
- Supporting the development and implementation of case plans
- Participating in case staffing and treatment planning
- Coordinating services with community partners
- Learning professional documentation and report preparation
