About The Position

Behavioral Health- Counselor (MS Licensed) Location: IU West Hospital, Avon, IN Shift: Full-Time Days (Monday-Friday) Department: Outpatient Behavioral Health (ATRC) Join Our Outpatient Behavioral Health Team! Indiana University Health is seeking dedicated Masters-Level Behavioral Health Professionals (LMHC, LCSW, LMFT) to join our outpatient team at IU West Hospital. This position offers a collaborative, patient-centered environment where you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families facing mental health challenges. We are hiring multiple positions to build a strong, diverse team of 5-6 professionals-ideal for experienced clinicians looking to grow their career in outpatient mental health services. Position Overview: As a Counselor in our outpatient behavioral health program, you will: Conduct mental health evaluations and assessments Provide individual, family, and group counseling sessions Support complex discharge planning and care coordination Collaborate closely with medical staff and fellow therapists Serve as a key liaison with community resources, protective services, and law enforcement when needed Address psychosocial needs, emotional, social, and financial impacts of mental health conditions or disabilities Facilitate a safe, therapeutic environment using evidence-based practices (CBT, MI, DBT) Participate in team meetings and contribute to comprehensive patient care plans All patients are outpatient, and the role involves working within a multidisciplinary team committed to compassionate, patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's Degree from an accredited college/university in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related mental health field.
  • Experience: 3-5 years relevant healthcare, mental health, or community-based experience preferred.
  • Licensure: Valid Indiana license as an LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT required.
  • Certifications: Crisis intervention certification (required within 90 days of hire)
  • BLS certification (required within 30 days of hire)
  • Strong understanding of disease impact and human behavior in health settings
  • Proficiency with Evidence-Based Practices (CBT, MI, DBT)
  • Knowledge of legal mandates related to child and adult protective services
  • Ability to create a safe, supportive environment and instruct daily activities
  • Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent collaboration skills with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and healthcare teams
