Behavioral Health- Counselor (MS Licensed) Location: Gateway Plaza Shift: Full-Time Day Join Our Compassionate Behavioral Health Team! Indiana University Health is seeking an experienced Counselor (MS Licensed) to support patients within a dynamic behavioral health environment. This role involves facilitating individual, group, and family counseling, supporting discharge planning, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide safe, effective, and family-centered care. Position Overview: The Counselor will: Facilitate patient involvement in treatment and education within the milieu Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions Perform utilization review and support complex discharge planning Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure timely, safe, and resourceful care Interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, serving as a role model for caring practices Assess psychosocial risk factors by evaluating prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness Counsel patients and families regarding emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness/disability Mobilize family and community resources to meet patient needs Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral Support complex discharge planning and crisis intervention efforts Serve as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, elder abuse, domestic violence, and institutional abuse Act as liaison with child and adult protective services (APS/CPS) and community agencies Provide intervention in guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related mental health field required.
  • Current Indiana license as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, or HSPP required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community-based experience preferred.
  • Crisis Intervention certification required within 90 days of hire
  • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices (CBT, MI, DBT)
  • Understanding of disease processes, human behavior, and social needs across the lifespan
  • Principles and techniques of crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Legal mandates for child and adult protective services (state and county)
  • Ability to create a safe, therapeutic environment and instruct daily activities
  • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong relationship-building skills with community organizations, law enforcement, schools, and healthcare teams
