About The Position

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive support related to student mental health and diversity within the Student Services team. The role emphasizes case management functions, crisis intervention, and programming to assist students in navigating their mental health needs and ensuring student retention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, human services or related field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with diverse students in higher education.
  • A minimum of one year experience working with students in a behavioral health setting, preferably in higher education behavioral health.
  • Experience working with diverse populations of adults.
  • Ability to use PC hardware and office application software (i.e., word processing and spreadsheet).
  • Ability to utilize multiple computer platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling or Social Work.
  • Licensed Master Social Work, Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
  • Experience with adult students in post-secondary education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling services to GCC students.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to GCC students.
  • Consult with supervisor and communicate with key personnel to address wellness concerns of students seeking services.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational support groups and wellness experiences for students.
  • Consult with faculty/staff dealing with student-related concerns as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidential student records.
  • Coordinate referral process to community service agencies while providing short-term intervention under the guidance of primary counselor.
  • Serve as liaison with community mental health & wellness agencies, RESTORE, social services, etc.
  • Serve as liaison between students, providers, families, advisors, and other college personnel.
  • Coordinate services for students requiring referrals related to conduct, academic progress, and/or residence hall concerns.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Assistant Director for Counseling Services.
  • Perform duties on occasional evenings and weekends.
