This is an exciting opportunity for a Privacy Counsel to support Walmart’s global privacy, data protection, and technology matters. The right person works closely with senior attorneys and cross-functional partners across product, engineering, marketing, security, and international business teams. This person focuses on supporting implementation, research, drafting, and day-to-day advisory work in a fast-paced, global retail environment. Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), license to practice law and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal experience, with significant expertise in global privacy law and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience advising on enterprise compliance programs, data protection strategies, and risk management in large-scale operations.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to explain complex legal concepts in clear, actionable terms.
  • Strategic thinking with a business-centered, pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in analyzing and applying global privacy laws.
  • Support drafting and updating privacy notices, disclosures, and internal guidance documents.
  • Assist in preparing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and privacy risk assessments.
  • Conduct legal research on regulatory developments and enforcement trends.
  • Advise product and engineering teams on privacy-by-design implementation.
  • Assist in reviewing new product features for privacy considerations.
  • Help analyze issues relating to cookies, pixels, SDKs, consent management platforms, and passive data collection technologies.
  • Contribute to internal guidance on AI/ML systems and automated decision-making tools under supervision.
  • Review and assist in drafting data processing agreements (DPAs) and vendor privacy terms.
  • Support contract review for technology and SaaS agreements involving personal data.
  • Assist with third-party privacy due diligence questionnaires and vendor risk assessments.
  • Help track and document cross-border data transfer mechanisms (e.g., SCCs, IDTAs).
  • Assist in developing and updating privacy training materials.
  • Help prepare internal compliance presentations.
  • Support privacy program documentation and tracking metrics.
  • Contribute to internal playbooks and guidance documents.
