Cost Engineer
About The Position
The Cost Engineer reports directly to the Preconstruction Manager and plays a critical role in the preconstruction phase of projects, ensuring accurate cost estimation, risk mitigation, and value engineering. The Cost Engineer is responsible for developing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and blueprints to determine material quantities, labor hours, and equipment requirements. The Cost Engineer will work closely with project managers, preconstruction manager & subcontractors to ensure project budgets are met. This position requires someone who has initiative, is eager to learn, and wants to help Gallant Commercial grow.
Responsibilities
- Develop Accurate Cost Estimates: Analyze project plans, specifications, and blueprints to determine material quantities and labor hours.
- Research and evaluate historical cost data, current market prices, and vendor quotes.
- Help prepare detailed cost estimates for various construction components.
- Streamline the estimating process through proficiency in department software (e.g., Timberline, On-Screen Take-off, SmartBid)
- Assist in maintaining cost databases with accurate, current and projected information.
- Perform Value Engineering: Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising project quality or functionality.
- Contribute to developing alternative design solutions and material substitutions.
- Collaborate with design teams to optimize project budgets.
- Manage Risk: Assess potential risks and uncertainties associated with projects.
- Develop contingency plans to mitigate risks and minimize cost overruns.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential cost deviations.
- Collaborate with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
- Participate in preconstruction meetings to discuss project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Provide timely and accurate cost information to support decision-making.
- Solicit and post projects on Building Connected for all Interior & Ground Up projects.
