The Cost Accounting Manager has key responsibilities of managing the cost accounting department by overseeing the Cost Accountants and ensuring that company policies / process relating to costing and inventory are in alignment with Generally Acceptance Accounting Principles (GAAP). Essential Job Functions Responsible for coaching, teaching, and supervision of assigned personnel. Responsible for effective employee relations. Initiates and is proactive with employee coaching and development. Resolves employee issues through identifying problems and resolutions. Provide on-site leadership for team by building and motivating team members to meet goals while adhering to their responsibilities. Responsible for the performance management (hiring, development, discipline, termination) of direct reports while collaborating with Human Resources. Maintain knowledge of current US GAAP guidance in relation to cost accounting and inventory valuation and update internal processes and procedures to comply as necessary. Implement and maintain accounting procedures to comply with internal control requirements to ensure appropriate internal control processes and procedures are in place and adequate. Partner with and support the General Managers / Business Unit Managers in their initiatives providing thought leadership as it relates to operational efficiencies and success while maintaining compliance with GAAP. Oversee and have responsibility for the daily operations of the cost accounting department including inventory and work-in-process (WIP) valuations, manufacturing variance analysis, reviewing and approving daily sales update batches, and intercompany orders management. Serve as the primary accounting authority for the company's revenue recognition practices under US GAAP (ASC 606), providing guidance and direction on appropriate treatment of customer contracts, equipment sales, and service components including determination of method of recognition. Oversee and manage the monthly responsibilities of the cost accounting department including profit recognition, net realizable value (NRV) analysis, construction-in-process (CIP) entries, calculation of company backlog, intercompany eliminations, and warranty reserves analysis. Oversee and be ultimately responsible for monitoring and reconciling inventory work completed by the Cost Accountants. Work with the Financial Analyst(s) and the business unit managers during the quarterly analysis of labor and burden rates to finalize appropriate rates and ensure correct updates are made in the system. Oversee the quarterly calculation and analysis of LIFO inventory value and update company reserve. Collaborate with the business unit managers and executive managers to review and evaluate slow-moving inventory levels and oversee quarterly reserve updates as necessary . Review the monthly journal entries of the Cost Accounting team and validate monthly / quarterly / yearly reconciliations of the cost accounting / inventory accounts and resolve discrepancies as they are discovered. Effectively manage the cost accounting schedule during the month-end close process and continually work towards timeline improvement. Responsible for validating the Dutch GAAP to US GAAP translation adjustments within the financial reporting package provided by the foreign subsidiary, Mueller BV, as it relates to revenue recognition, costing methods and inventory. Guide and direct the cost accounting personnel during the interim and year-end audits as various deliverables are required as well as assist with responses to analytical questions asked by the third-party auditors. Continuously evaluate process-improvement opportunities within the cost accounting department as well as actively seeking opportunities to improve cost accounting interaction with the business units to improve overall company efficiency and accuracy. Complete other duties and special projects as assigned. Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position.
