About The Position

We are seeking a talented and experienced Cost Accounting Manager to lead our cost accounting functions and ensure the accuracy of financial statements in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will provide critical financial insights to management by analyzing production costs, optimizing processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required
  • Typically 5-8+ years of progressive cost accounting or manufacturing finance experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership/supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling).
  • Strong knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory management methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in Accounting or an MBA is a plus.
  • A CPA or CMA certification is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Costing Processes: Oversee all cost accounting operations, including developing and maintaining standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead. Build models for all costs including activity based.
  • Analyze Variances and Profitability: Analyze production cost variances (material, labor, overhead) and prepare detailed reports and profitability analyses for management to support pricing and product decisions.
  • Oversee Inventory Management: Manage inventory valuation, including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods. Oversee annual physical inventories or regular cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies. Identify obsolete inventory and prepare necessary handling and adjustments.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes related to cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory adjustments, ensuring all reports comply with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions and process improvements in costing methodologies and systems, collaborating with operations, supply chain, and engineering teams. Create process to regularly review expiration dates for existing inventory to ensure use and avoid potential waste.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist with the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes related to manufacturing costs and operational expenses.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, train, and mentor cost accounting staff, ensuring the team meets project milestones and goals.
  • Audit Support: Provide support for internal and external audits related to cost and inventory compliance.
