About The Position

The purpose of your role as a Cost Accounting Coordinator The Cost Accounting Coordinator supports the Finance and Operations teams by maintaining accurate, complete, and timely job cost and inventory records for mechanical construction projects. This role focuses on job set-up, cost coding, basic variance review, and inventory transactions for construction jobs under the direction of the Regional Finance Leader. The Coordinator helps ensure data integrity in the ERP system and provides reliable information to support project reporting and financial statements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Fundamental knowledge of US GAAP and Accounting practices
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (e.g., vlookups, pivot tables) and proficiency in Word and other Microsoft Office 365 tools, with the ability and desire to continue learning.
  • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in data entry and reconciliations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with general ledger, accounts payable, and cost accounting preferred
  • Experience with accounting and financial reporting systems (CMiC, UltiPro, Adaptive Insights, or similar ERP/financial systems) preferred
  • Exposure to or interest in construction or project-based accounting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up new construction jobs, phases, cost codes, budgets, contracts, and related master data in the ERP system in accordance with company standards and approvals.
  • Maintain job records by processing updates for change orders, budget revisions, OCIP/CCIP designations, and job inactivations.
  • Ensure required documents (contracts, change orders, exemption certificates, OCIP/CCIP insurance documentation, etc.) are obtained and properly saved in master folders.
  • Capture and classify construction job cost data (labor, materials, subcontract, equipment, other) to ensure accurate and timely posting to projects.
  • Run standard job cost and margin reports and perform basic variance checks to identify missing or inaccurate data, escalating unusual items to the Regional Finance Leader or project teams.
  • Assist with daily and monthly accounting activities related to construction job cost, including troubleshooting differences and errors through data mining, detail review, and coordination with other departments.
  • Prepare routine journal entries under supervision to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with US GAAP and company policies.
  • Validate accuracy of purchasing card (pcard) charges posted to construction jobs and related purchasing activity, and follow up on coding issues with cardholders and approvers.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives to streamline construction job cost processes, improve data quality, and enhance internal controls by providing data, testing changes, and documenting steps.
  • Assist with special projects, job cost research, and ad hoc analysis as requested by the Regional Finance Leader or other Finance team members.
  • Comply with accounting policies and procedures, helping to ensure proper internal controls are followed.
