Cost Accounting Analyst Position Summary: The Cost Accounting Analyst is responsible for analyzing, tracking, and reporting on costs associated with production, operations, and business activities. This role supports strategic decision-making by providing insights into cost efficiency, variance analysis, and financial performance. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of accounting principles. Duties entail: Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Analyze and monitor standard costs, actual costs, and variances. Prepare and maintain cost accounting records, reports, and reconciliations. Conduct variance analysis (material, labor, overhead) and provide actionable insights. Assist in the development and maintenance of standard costing systems. Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to understand cost drivers. Perform inventory analysis, including valuation and reconciliation. Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements. Prepare financial models and forecasts related to cost structures. Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and company policies. Provide support to Finance staff and assist in resolving issues that arise in these areas with minimal supervision Assist in Sarbanes Oxley compliance activities. Learns SOX Corporate requirements and maintains records to comply with said requirements Other duties and projects as assigned to meet department/facility goals. Ability to analyze financial data, identify and explain variances to forecast, use the analysis to forecast going forward Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities using strong organization and prioritization skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on attention to detail balanced with a big picture focus. Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP. Ability to read, understand, and interpret financial data with an understanding of GAAP and regulatory requirements as well as company policies, procedures and internal controls. Ability to identify and research accounting issues independently and communicate conclusions effectively both verbally and in written form. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 2–5 years of experience in cost accounting, financial analysis, or related role. Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS). Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification. Experience in manufacturing or product-based environments. Familiarity with cost accounting systems and inventory management.
