About The Position

Winpak Heat Seal is seeking a Cost Accountant to join the Finance team based out of Pekin, Illinois. The Cost Accountant plays a critical role in driving financial insight and operational excellence within the Business Unit. This role is responsible for analyzing and following up on manufacturing and inventory variances, partnering closely with management to establish budgets, forecasts, and performance goals. The Cost Accountant will collaborate with fellow Accountants and cross-functional partners to support day-to-day financial operations, serving as a trusted contributor to informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Post-secondary education in accounting (Degree or diploma or completion of an equivalent training program in accounting)
• 5+ years of experience in an accounting role, with a preference for experience in the manufacturing industry
• 5+ years of experience with proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)
• 5+ years of experience in engaging effectively within the finance and accounting team
• Ability to work onsite full time

Nice To Haves

• Designation in CMA/CPA or an MBA would be an asset
• 5+ years of experience working independently with minimal supervision, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately within tight deadlines
• 5+ years of experience demonstrating strong communication (both verbal and written), and organizational skills.
• 5+ years of experience working with ERP systems and management information systems to ensure data integrity

Responsibilities

• Manufacturing and Inventory Analysis Review, analyze, and report all manufacturing variances to management and production supervisors.
• Suggest process and policy improvements to maximize efficiency and results.
• Prepare ad hoc analyses on production concepts, machine utilization, waste, run rates, labor costs, and production standards.
• Forecast manufacturing variances and prepare WIP variance accruals based on open manufacturing orders.
• Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, monthly summaries, and audits of raw materials and spare parts.
• Analyze inventory revaluations, PPV, transfer pricing, and quarterly raw material pricing, providing explanations and journal entries.
• Reconcile G/L inventory to perpetual inventory sub-ledger to ensure accurate inventory records and reporting.
• Financial Reporting and Month-End Accounting Utilize “Flex Budget” concepts to adjust monthly budget and volume variance entries.
• Prepare and distribute monthly reports including direct labor spending, volume variances, manufacturing variances, and fixed & variable spending analyses.
• Assist with budgets, forecasts, quarterly reports, statutory financial reporting, and other cross-functional financial initiatives.
• Run and review internal accounting entries, miscellaneous journal entries, and ensure accuracy in purchase orders and payments.
• Reconcile and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts and provide support to internal/external auditors as needed.
• Tariff, Compliance, and Process Improvement Oversee and reconcile tariff/duty charges on imported goods, ensuring timely and compliant payments.
• Serve as liaison with third-party brokerage partners and assist with potential exclusions and drawbacks.
• Collaborate across business units to drive improvements in manufacturing processes, variances, and overall operational efficiency.
