About The Position

The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of product costing, process constraints [http://www.accountingtools.com/types-of-constraints], margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities.  The cost accountant must also construct and monitor cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of accounting/finance experience / working in manufacturing / operations role
  • BA/BS degree, as well as excellent analysis skills, and the ability to collaborate with a multi-department team. Also helpful to have experience manipulating large databases.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Cost accounting experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Experience with ERP systems and accounting software.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple jobs and adapt to a rapidly changing work environment with fluctuating priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Highly self-motivated with ability to bring a high-level of energy to work.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze/interpret data and take appropriate action.

Nice To Haves

  • IFS or SAP Costing experience a plus
  • Power user of Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate physical inventory counts [http://www.accountingtools.com/procedure-inventory-count] and cycle counts [http://www.accountingtools.com/article-inv-cycle-counting]
  • Investigate cycle counting variances and resolve issues
  • Update standard costs [http://www.accountingtools.com/standard-costing] in the bill of materials [http://www.accountingtools.com/definition-bill-of-materials]
  • Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
  • Validate the cost of goods sold [http://www.accountingtools.com/definition-cost-of-goods-sold] as part of the month-end close
  • Accumulate and apply labor and overhead [http://www.accountingtools.com/overhead-definition] costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles [http://www.accountingtools.com/definition-gaap]
  • Work with the materials review board to locate and dispose of obsolete [http://www.accountingtools.com/definition-obsolescence] inventory
  • Conduct ongoing process constraint analyses and variance analysis for manufactured parts
  • Report on breakeven points [http://www.accountingtools.com/breakeven-point] by products, work centers, and factories
  • Report on margins by product and division
  • Report on variances [http://www.accountingtools.com/summary-variance-analysis/] and their causes, which includes spending variances related to purchased parts, labor rates, overhead spending
  • Analyze capital budgeting [http://www.accountingtools.com/dictionary-capital-budgeting] requests
  • Perform cost accumulation tasks
  • Perform Miscellaneous financial analysis as it relates to operational activities at the assembly locations
