Corrosion Prevention & Control Intern (Summer 2026)
About The Position
LMI is seeking a Corrosion Prevention & Control Intern to support our work with the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Materiel Readiness (ODASD-MR). This organization leads policy oversight, program development, and cross-service coordination across the Department of Defense sustainment enterprise. The intern will contribute to initiatives that span the organic industrial base, sustainment technologies, corrosion prevention, and explosive safety, all of which directly impact the readiness and longevity of critical defense systems. This role supports collaboration across Military Departments, depots, industry partners, and the broader defense industrial base to strengthen national defense readiness. Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Interest in defense, national security, or government consulting
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in both written and verbal formats
Nice To Haves
- Exposure to corrosion science, materials degradation, or industrial chemistry applications
- Interest in emerging technologies, sustainment innovation, or industrial base modernization
- Familiarity with data analysis tools or research methodologies
- Demonstrated curiosity around how commercial innovation can be applied to government challenges
Responsibilities
- Support research and analysis on corrosion prevention and control strategies across defense systems and infrastructure
- Assist in evaluating emerging technologies, materials science advancements, and industrial best practices
- Contribute to policy analysis, development, and modernization efforts related to sustainment and lifecycle management
- Help identify process improvement opportunities across sustainment programs and initiatives
- Conduct market and industry research to understand trends impacting the defense industrial base
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to synthesize insights into actionable recommendations
- Develop briefings, white papers, and executive-level deliverables
