About The Position

The Corrections Testing Assistant is a casual position within the Corrections Education team at Portland Community College. This role is crucial for providing CASAS and GED test proctoring services to adults in custody (AIC) participating in the education program at Columbia River Correctional Institution. The assistant will offer front-line services to students, ensuring they have the necessary materials and understand the parameters for completing their tests. Portland Community College is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, serving approximately 80,000 students, and is committed to making high-quality education accessible.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • One year of post-secondary coursework in a relevant field and one year of experience working in an administrative or other similar environment is required.
  • Experience performing the duties of the job may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Knowledge of: Policies and procedures related to testing, and placement; Assessment and the interpretation and application of test results; Applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Skills in: Problem solving; Good time management; Providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to: Utilize computer technology and operate a variety of office equipment; Work with adult learners of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds; Remain calm in difficult situations and offer viable solutions; Effectively communicate in oral and written form; Work collaboratively in a fast-changing environment; Follow protocols and escalation procedures.

  • Proctoring experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides CASAS and GED testing for Adults in Custody (AIC) at Columbia River Correctional Institution.
  • Provides approved accommodations for students who need additional resources for testing according to the Oregon Department of Corrections Special Education team.
  • Proctors make-up testing for students who were unable to take the test at the original scheduled time.
  • Maintains records following established guidelines and procedures.
  • Escalates issues to Testing Lead, Education Coordinator, or Education Director as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
