We are seeking dedicated and experienced candidates for the position of Correctional Sergeant. This is an excellent opportunity for career advancement while playing a crucial role in maintaining security, overseeing staff, and guiding Adults in Custody (AICs) toward rehabilitation. About the Job - Your Role As a Correctional Sergeant, you will be a senior security staff member responsible for overseeing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of AICs while upholding the mission of the Department. You will serve as a lead worker, ensuring facility operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will supervise AICs during movement assignments, monitor high-security areas, and conduct security operations such as transports, searches, and emergency response. In this role, you will also play a key part in staff development, assisting in training and potentially mentoring subordinate staff as a Field Training Officer (FTO). You will lead by example, modeling professionalism, accountability, and behaviors that support rehabilitation efforts. This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in a correctional security setting where your primary duties were the care and custody of AICs
  • Be able to obtain, within two weeks, an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate OR a Correctional Certificate from another government agency
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • United States Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to obtain a valid Oregon motor vehicle operator's license.

Responsibilities
