About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408 Reporting directly to the Lieutenant I, this position will provide supervision for subordinate officers regarding their assigned tasks with male offenders in a Medium Custody State Corrections Facility. About Richmond Correctional Institution: Richmond Correctional Institution is located in Hoffman, North Carolina and houses up to 420 male offenders in a medium custody facility. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Facility Operations.
  • Knowledge of Prisons’ Policy and Procedures.
  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
  • Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms.
  • Accounting for persons and ensuring that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
  • Rotating and various duty assignments within the defined level of work.
