The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Salary Range: $41,206 - $72,113 Reporting to a Correctional Lieutenant III, this position is responsible for first-line supervision to Correctional Officer III's in a close custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area/post, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. - Ensuring staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are followed. Overseeing officer activities and performance by maintaining facility security through regular inspections. - Ensuring compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance and health and safety of offenders are followed. - Leading staff in carrying out tactical assignments, responding to emergency situations, and giving directions during drills, searches, and in emergencies. - Ensuring the custody, security, and welfare of offenders are maintained. Referring offenders to restrictive housing for temporary assignment. - Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, their living quarters, and work areas for contraband. - Investigating and acting appropriately regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints. - Preparing and reviewing a variety of reports, completing annual performance evaluations, and assisting in assessing, evaluating, and implementing employee discipline. - Performing other related duties, as required.
