About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $35,984 - $62,971 Reporting to the Lieutenant, this position is responsible for the daily operation of an institution and ensures that security is maintained according to divisional policy and procedures. About Sanford Correctional Center: Sanford Correctional Center is located in Sanford, North Carolina and houses up to 298 male offenders in a minimum custody facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of facility operations
  • Knowledge of Prisons’ policy and procedures
  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
  • Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
  • Handling activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders.
  • Working, rotating, and various duty assignments within the defined level of work.
  • Making decisions regarding the day-to-day operation of the facility and the shift.
  • Supervising a shift of employees, conducting shift line-up, making shift schedules, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
  • Conducting inspections of offender living areas, medical and kitchen areas, and the facility as a whole to identify possible safety hazards and to ensure operations are being followed by policy.
  • Reviewing all logs, reports, and required documentation from shift rotations.
  • Completing investigations, time reports, all required custody reports, shift schedules, and monitoring staff.
