About The Position

Management, direction, oversight, and coordination of all functions pertaining to the offender disciplinary process within the NCDAC, Institutions, representing the department in all offenders’ disciplinary matters. Reviews documents relating to offender discipline, i.e., lesson plans, audit materials, and policies/procedures, and make appropriate recommendations for revisions. Supervises an Office Assistant and two (2) Chief Assistant Disciplinary Hearing Officers. The Disciplinary Services Section employs approximately (15) Disciplinary Hearing Officers assigned throughout the state at various locations. Reviews offender disciplinary appeals, adhering to constitutional and federal court requirements, as well as state and federal statutes and rulings.

Requirements

  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in correctional programs management or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of correctional programs available and the unique aspects of the various facilities.

  • Demonstrated skills to train staff in matters related to offender discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of current automated computer files and web applications.
  • Provided training to staff using an approved lesson plan
  • Participated in auditing of criminal justice programs.
  • Made significant decisions subsequent to review of offender disciplinary dispositions.
