About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408 This posting is for two Correctional Lieutenants(position numbers 60062304 and 60062305) at Hyde CI in Swan Quarter, NC. Work in this class involves assisting in planning, supervising, and coordinating activities in a minimum custody facility. Employees supervise Correctional Sergeant I’s. Employees may serve as the Officer-In Charge (OIC) in the absence of the Correctional Captain. Employees assist in planning and supervising personnel actions, administrative affairs, officers’ work schedule and coordinating activities involving the discipline, security, and the welfare of the inmate population. Employee’s responsibilities are primarily custodial in nature serving as shift supervisor. Positions report to a Correctional Captain I or an Assistant Correctional Superintendent. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
