About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position reports to the Associate Warden II. This position performs supervisory work in the CRV Facility. Provide direct supervision of CRV Correctional Sergeants and Support Staff to include Intake, Warehouse, Maintenance, and Transportation staff. Ensure staff are properly trained, alert, informed, and prepared to perform their job duties under a variety of conditions. Responsible for coordinating and monitoring unit (dorm) movements within the facility to ensure they are conducted in a safe, secure, and orderly manner. Develops and assigns chores and task assignments to program participants. Assists with orientation and intake duties as needed. Responsible for daily inspections to ensure security, safety, and cleanliness of the facility. Ensure that any corrective actions in these areas are taken immediately to address concerns. Performs the duties of a Correctional Sergeant during absences/shortages. Ensure program participants attend and participate in assigned daily activities to include but not limited to assigned programming, recreational activities, and job assignments. Respond to program participants in crisis, resolve problems and address immediate needs until further communication and direction with the Probation/Parole Officer. Ensure proper protocol is followed regarding security and control of protective equipment, such as OC pepper spray, handcuffs and keys and radios and equipment is properly maintained and functioning properly, and that staff are assigned the required safety equipment and are trained in its proper use. Collaborates with on-site probation officers and GEO manager on the administration of weekly incentives and consequences. Serve as a major component of managing offender behavior, specifically addressing both positive and negative behaviors. Ensure the completion of regularly scheduled and random total facility searches and report results. Serve as a member of the facility management team, attend weekly IDM meetings, attend monthly sergeant meetings, behavior management team meetings, offender town hall meetings, and other formal and informal meetings as required. Prepare, review, and/or respond to operational reports, memorandums, incident reports, accident reports, use force reports, disciplinary reports, offender grievances, and shift narratives. North Piedmont CRV is a Confinement in Response to Violation correctional facility for females, housing 136 offenders, with 56 employees. Probation/parole violators are housed for up to a 90-day sentence. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The selected candidate will work Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm. Hours may vary at times depending on the business needs of the facility.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of correctional experience, one of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience with report writing.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques, and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
  • Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.
