About The Position

Reporting to the Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position will carry a caseload of male medium custody level offenders which involves supportive counseling, answering and following up on questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is expected to be available on March 01, 2025.

Requirements

• Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques
• Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution, or
• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, or
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.
• MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinating major specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders such as offender work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating.
• Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive.
• Conducting continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area.
• Operating various office machines accurately.
• Preparing written reports and forms reflecting accurate information reviewed from various sources.
• Demonstrating and instructing offenders in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observations.
• Performing crisis intervention and routine counseling to include suicide prevention.
