The Correctional Case Manager position within the Department of Corrections is a vital role responsible for providing social casework services to offenders committed to correctional institutions. This position involves assessing the security risks and programmatic needs of offenders through interviews and assessment instruments, preparing case history reports, and recommending appropriate program assignments. The case manager will review the work and conduct records of assigned offenders to monitor their progress and determine if changes in assignments or security classifications are necessary. Additionally, the role includes advising offenders on personal issues, employment resources, vocational skills, educational needs, and family problems, as well as delivering programs aimed at facilitating successful re-entry into the community post-incarceration. The Correctional Case Manager will also assist in preparing reports such as parole summaries and court-ordered presentence investigations. They will handle incoming and outgoing mail for assigned offenders and develop, monitor, and amend offender transition plans in alignment with re-entry programs and services. Establishing a collaborative network with relevant partners is essential to provide support and services for offenders, involving family members and community resources. This position is structured into three levels: Level I is an entry-level role under close supervision, Level II is a career level with a full range of case management tasks, and Level III is a specialist level responsible for advanced case management functions, including substance abuse treatment and offender re-entry case management. Each level has specific educational and experiential requirements, with a preference for candidates holding a college degree.
