About The Position

We are looking for a Correctional Captain to join our team. All Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC) Security staff receive locality pay and we offer shift differential pay in addition to base salary listed! Our team has a 40 hour work week and our Officer-to-Patient ratio is more favorable than most facilities. We value our team at KCPC. Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have three years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, social work dealing with the rehabilitation of offenders, or in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a residential, correctional, group home, detention or day treatment program or any combination of the above.
  • At least one year of the experience must have been in a supervisory capacity in a custodial security setting.
  • Must be twenty-one years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a safe and therapeutic environment to all patients and staff while supervising Correctional Officers, Sergeants, and Lieutenants.
  • Supervises Correctional Officers, Sergeants, and Lieutenants.
  • Maintains documentation on job performance, recommends and issues discipline.
  • May make recommendations to Personnel regarding continued employment of security staff.
  • Prepares and approves timesheets for Correctional Lieutenants.
  • Completes performance evaluations for Correctional Officers, Sergeants, and Lieutenants.
  • Acts as Shift Supervisor when needed to include facilitating roll call and/or departmental meetings, ensuring staffing complement is met, coordinating facility operations during emergency situations, inspections of physical plant after emergencies, and supervising transportation of patients.
  • Provides assistance to and supports Shift Supervisor.
  • Performs shift scheduling and post assignments of security officers.
  • Ensures completion of incident reports, conducts investigations, reports maintenance and housekeeping problems.
  • Serves on panel for security interviews as designated by Shift Supervisor.
  • Teaches staff how to implement agency policy and ensures that officers review, understand and adhere to policy and procedure.
  • Makes recommendations on training needs, security procedural changes and institutional policy changes.
  • Conducts ongoing trainings as needed and serves on facility committees.
  • Responds to and assists in emergency situations, ensuring appropriate intervention techniques are utilized.
  • Addresses and resolves problems and conflicts related to staff and patient needs.
  • Attends treatment team meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
