About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Captain to lead daily facility operations and provide management to all security staff within a correctional institution. This role is essential for maintaining a better, safer Kentucky and offers an opportunity to advance a career in Criminal Justice.

Requirements

  • Must meet all federal and state laws applicable to the carrying, use, and possession of firearms and ammunition at the time of employment
  • Prohibited from using medical cannabis
  • High school graduate
  • Three years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, social work dealing with the rehabilitation of offenders, or in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a residential, correctional, group home, detention or day treatment program or any combination of the above
  • At least one year of the experience must have been in a supervisory capacity in a custodial security setting
  • Must be twenty-one years of age
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional support and supervision of Correctional Lieutenants, Correctional Sergeants, and Correctional Officers in daily duties
  • Ensures staff are following Corrections Policy and Procedures and Institutional Policy and Procedures
  • Ensures staff complete required reports to include disciplinary reports, grievances, theft reports, or any other related investigation assigned
  • Inform staff of any policy or operational changes
  • Serves as shift supervisor in running the daily operations of facility
  • Monitors expenditures such as staff compensation time, overtime, and maintenance cost for the facility
  • Responds appropriately in emergency situations
  • Ensures staff reports are completed in a timely manner
  • Completes evaluations on employees
