About The Position

This position is located at Anson Correctional Institution, Polkton, NC. Duties include data entry, collection, and making and reporting clinical impressions of inmates during assessment or in daily activities. This position may assist in group or individual supportive counseling in groups such as arts and crafts, leisure activities, horticulture, and quilting. This position may be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and inventorying supplies used for programming. Employee will monitor inmates as they work on treatment goals in a therapeutic diversion unit. Employee's supportive counseling role includes use of crisis intervention techniques and referral to treatment staff as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or other human services field from an appropriately accredited institution with several classes in psychology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.

  • Understanding Criminal Behavior: Documented understanding the causes of criminal behavior, inmate stressors, and be skilled in crisis intervention and supportive counseling techniques.
  • Diagnostic Awareness: Considerable familiarity with psychiatric diagnostic categories and associated behaviors to identify inmates needing intensive intervention.
  • Communication Skills: Documented ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Organizational Abilities: Demonstrated ability of organizing, preparing, and analyzing accurate records, charts, and reports.
