About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! The primary purpose of this role is to review highly technical and complex drawings for major project signage. Responsibilities include verifying calculations for sign dimensions—such as metal thickness, lettering positions, and spacing—and identifying any inconsistencies for resolution by DOT engineers. This position ensures accurate entry into the computer system and clearly communicates final specifications to the production supervisor. Additionally, the role oversees quality control for sign operations at the Sign Plant and assists in training employees and inmates involved in the preparation and production of highway road signs. This position also provides technical supervision across multiple processes at the plant, ensuring compliance with NCDOT, Federal Highway Administration, and environmental specifications and warranty requirements. These processes involve the use of various equipment and tools. Correction Enterprises division is committed to providing technical and behavioral job training to offenders, aiming to enhance their skills and increase their chances of successful reintegration into society upon release. Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and a minimum of two years of related industry/service experience; OR An equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission
  • Overtime work is required.
  • The employee must attend and successfully complete COBT certification within one year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Experience in supervising unskilled labor.
  • Prior work experience in metal fabrication.
