About The Position

This position is responsible for training offenders in the safe, proper, and most efficient operation of equipment and practices utilized in a sewing manufacturing operation, while ensuring quality and quantity standards in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations. This employee will organize and direct work assignments of offenders and set up of equipment for processing of raw materials. The employee will prepare a variety of written reports involving subjects such as inventory levels, equipment specifications, offender incidents, incentive wage payroll and production schedules. The work environment may involve exposure to noise, dust fumes, dangerous machinery, chemical body fluids and fallen objects. This may require the use of personal protective equipment (such as ear plugs/muff, safety glasses, respirators, protective clothing, etc. and/or personal protective equipment used in sewing operation)

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and a minimum of two years of related industry/service experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission
  • Agriculture - NC Pesticide License and NC Wastewater License
  • Cannery – Low Acid and Acidified Food Production certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Laundry - Certified Professional Laundry Manager or Certified Laundry and Linen Manager certification.
  • Braille - Certified Braille Transcriber certificate must be obtained within 18 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hands on sewing equipment & tools. (Machines, press snips, etc.)
  • Training in a production manufacturing environment.
  • Training experience with skilled & unskilled workers.
  • Experience with safety programs in a production environment.
  • Experience with inventory & stock replenishment.
