About The Position

This position is accountable for supporting the implementation of safety standard practices to achieve business and location safety and health goals and objectives. Proactively working with key operational stakeholders at their location(s), the incumbent supports both compliance and consistency while acting as an advocate for safety best practices. Directly supporting the Sr. Regional Safety Manager and working in a matrix organizational structure, this position will provide support for the effective/timely integration and standardization of strategic initiatives and other projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Electric Power Generation, Engineering or similar field.
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable.
  • Broad knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards.
  • Understanding of BBS principles, HOP processes and the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program.
  • Strong communications and presentation skills—written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to travel as required (up to 40%) to support Vistra’s facilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate safety best practices / initiatives to achieve business, site safety and health goals and objectives.
  • Partner with other members of the corporate safety team to ensure consistency across all facilities regarding regulatory and company safety and health standards.
  • Champion the Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) processes, achieve competence beyond the fundamental level and cultivate a learning mentality /environment.
  • Reinforce a culture where safety and health is understood to be and is accepted as a high priority in all operating decisions.
  • Support the behavioral based safety process (BBS).
  • Demonstrate the initiative and creativity to identify and solve site level and fleet wide problems through learning and engagement.
  • Act as a safety and health resource for assigned locations and will provide additional safety support to locations during routine and non-routine activities as needed.
  • Support fleet wide initiatives and evaluate the integration of productivity/safety to ensure alignment with our core values.
  • Measure, audit and evaluate the effectiveness of safety processes and take the necessary steps to identify and eliminate or reduce the hazards and risk in the workplace.
  • Communicate safety issues, trends, etc. to the facility management, the corporate safety team, and other support positions.
  • Proactively work with the other safety specialists and key operational stakeholders to align safety compliance and consistency.
  • Take the initiative to leverage best practices/improvement items and programs from beyond the assigned locations and share with the broader fleet.
