This role oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance, mitigate risk, and support safe and efficient project execution. This role also has responsibility for Henderson workplace safety. The Corporate Safety Director partners with executive and operational leadership to integrate safety into all aspects of planning, design, and field operations. This role drives a proactive safety culture, ensures consistency across business lines, and provides leadership and oversight of all safety personnel and programs for HBS and HEI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, construction management, or related field required
  • Minimum 15 years of safety experience, preferably in construction, engineering, or related industries required
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing safety teams or programs required
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading safety programs at a regional or enterprise level required
  • Experience analyzing safety data and driving actionable insights required
  • Experience supporting both construction and engineering environments preferred
  • Experience leading safety in a multi-entity or matrixed organization preferred
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance requirements required
  • Strong ability to influence and partner with senior leadership and operational teams required
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills required
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or similar certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops and leads the company-wide safety strategy aligned with organizational goals
  • Establishes standardized safety programs, policies, and procedures across all business lines
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Defines safety performance metrics, reporting standards, and accountability frameworks
  • Provides regular updates and insights to executive leadership on safety performance, risks, and trends
  • Leads and develops the safety organization, including Safety Managers, Specialists, and Coordinators
  • Establishes clear roles, expectations, and career pathways within the safety function
  • Provides coaching, mentorship, and performance management for safety staff
  • Partners with business leaders to align safety strategy with operational execution
  • Oversees safety performance across all projects and operational environments
  • Identifies enterprise-level risks and implements proactive mitigation strategies
  • Ensures safety is integrated into project planning, design, and execution processes
  • Reviews and analyzes incident data, trends, and root causes to drive continuous improvement
  • Leads or oversees serious incident investigations and ensures appropriate corrective actions
  • Partners with Risk Management, Legal, and HR to manage safety-related compliance and liability
  • Represents the organization in regulatory interactions, audits, and safety-related legal proceedings (e.g., OSHA)
  • Ensures compliance across all geographies and business units with applicable safety regulations
  • Oversees programs such as drug and alcohol testing and return-to-work processes
  • Champions a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization
  • Drives engagement initiatives that promote safe behaviors and ownership at all levels
  • Oversees development and delivery of safety training programs and resources
  • Ensures consistent communication of safety expectations and best practices
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance safety programs, systems, and tools
  • Stays informed on industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes
  • Leads initiatives to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability of safety operations
  • Evaluates and implements technology or systems to support safety performance and reporting
