About The Position

The Corporate Legal Affairs Intern contributes to ACP’s internal legal operations by working with the Head of Corporate Legal Affairs on matters related to nonprofit governance, regulatory compliance, contracts, and organizational policies. This role provides exposure to how in-house legal teams support a complex trade association and its affiliated nonprofit entities. Working closely with legal leadership, the intern will contribute to research, documentation, and coordination across a range of corporate legal functions, gaining insight into how legal guidance supports ACP’s mission, governance, and day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • Current law student (1L or 2L) with an interest in corporate, nonprofit, or regulatory law.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience related to nonprofit law, corporate governance, or regulatory compliance.
  • Interest in clean energy, trade associations, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and document management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research related to nonprofit governance and compliance requirements for 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 501(c)(6) organizations.
  • Contribute to internal audits, policy reviews, and updates to legal operating guidelines and documentation.
  • Review federal and state rules related to lobbying, political contributions, and nonprofit compliance and summarize key considerations.
  • Contribute to the review and organization of contracts, agreements, and procurement materials for vendors, consultants, and partners.
  • Help maintain and update contract templates, records, and tracking systems.
  • Contribute to board and committee coordination, including preparation of agendas, resolutions, minutes, and governance materials.
  • Help maintain corporate records, bylaws, policies, and director documentation.
  • Conduct research related to labor, employment, and workplace compliance issues, as appropriate.
  • Help track and organize intellectual property records and support review of trademark usage and related materials.
  • Contribute to additional legal research, documentation, and coordination tasks as needed to support the Corporate Legal Affairs function.
