About The Position

Responsible for the engineering, management of conceptualization, cost estimating, developing, and building of tooling for plastic injection. Additional responsibilities include, design and development of Part check fixtures. This Position involves frequent contact with customers, sales, and tool building suppliers, to maximize the overall effort and provide the highest levels of customer service. The Corporate Injection Tooling Engineer will report to the Corporate Tooling and Process Manager and will work closely with Purchasing, Sales, Program Launch Managers, Product Engineers, Pattern Developers, Plant Engineering, Quality, Customers and Vendors.

Requirements

  • bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent working experience in a high-paced automotive engineering environment.
  • experience of at least (5) five years as an Injection Tooling Engineer capacity, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Databases).
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills and the ability to expand capabilities in accordance with business changes.

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD, Catia, SolidWorks and other CAD software would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Development relationships within the customer Engineering and New Model Development organizations.
  • Specify, Procure, and Implement new injection Molding Tooling.
  • Collaborate with the Launch Team to review and provide feedback on part designs related to moldability (Mold Flows), quality, and cost.
  • Develop and/or update Tooling specifications for the RFQ process.
  • Responsible for developing timing plans with Vendors, track and ensure that all delivery commitments are achieved.
  • Manage Tooling suppliers to design, develop, construct, and deliver new injection mold tooling, including adherence to timing plans.
  • Work with tooling Suppliers to trial and approve new tools for shipment.
  • Attend all Trial events and document all process settings, part dimensional data for part process validation.
  • Manages all updates and changes existing to existing Tooling & Models/Drawings for design change modifications. Report costs and timing to the team.
  • Maintains accounting of all tooling budgets for all programs and reports on budget variance issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret 3D models and the various layers of information.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings and GD&T.
  • Other assignments as required.
