About The Position

The Corporate Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager position involves an initial short-term assignment of approximately 12-18 months, requiring three full weeks per month onsite to provide dedicated EHS leadership and support local operational needs, while maintaining limited corporate EHS responsibilities. Upon completion of this assignment, the role transitions into a permanent Corporate EHS Manager position based in Fort Collins, CO, with organization-wide impact. In this capacity, the manager acts as a subject matter expert, leading the development, standardization, and implementation of global EHS policies, procedures, and management systems. The role is crucial for driving alignment across regions, advancing Woodward’s global EHS strategy, and supporting risk reduction and operational productivity through best-practice leadership and strategic guidance.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience as a tactical leader to drive organization-wide change and continuous improvement; willing to be “out in front,” dig in, get the work done, and drive process improvements.
  • Specialist knowledge in various areas of EHS, including safety and health, industrial hygiene, environmental and sustainability, remediation, management systems, auditing, etc.; understands impacts and implications of regulatory or policy changes and can implement needed improvements.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and maintain EHS management systems (14001, 45001, 50001) and related policies and procedures.
  • High proficiency and expertise in assessing and evaluating environmental, health, and safety exposures and risks.
  • Solid experience in incident investigation and analysis, problem-solving skills, and the use of RCA tools; able to offer practical solutions to internal stakeholders.
  • Experience administering data systems for EHS data collection and analysis; ability to perform high-level data analysis and data presentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues who possess varying degrees of EHS subject matter knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills; fully proficient using Microsoft suite of applications.
  • BA/BS in Safety Occ. Health, Industrial Hygiene, Physical Science/ Engineering).
  • 10 plus years in combination of operations/ EHS roles, with 3-5 years of active, demonstrated leadership in leading and developing small teams.
  • All applicants must be U.S. Persons within the meaning of the ITAR and EAR, or eligible to obtain all required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State and/or the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for designing and deploying EHS data collection systems for global data trending and best-practice sharing.
  • Supports oversight of various sites’ compliance with EHS regulations and standards (as promulgated by regulatory agencies) through periodic on-site compliance audits and inspection/monitoring programs; leads and/or participates in routine site audits in the global compliance audit program (2–4 per year).
  • Implements short-term and long-term functional EHS goals and objectives and holds primary responsibility for tactical implementation of corporate EHS initiatives and programs; may be responsible for an area of EHS specialty, providing advice, expertise, and support to global operations.
  • Accountable and responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and maintaining enterprise internal and external EHS compliance programs, procedures, practices, and functional training curriculum programs, including management of an internal global audit program.
  • Supports and contributes to incident investigations and analysis as needed; responsible for incident trend analysis and sharing/leveraging learnings with the organization.
  • Monitors new and proposed changes to EHS regulations broadly and provides recommendations for incorporation into the EHS management systems and standards in a timely manner.
  • Promotes an effective culture and communication programs in accordance with the long-term strategic plan to enhance and encourage member awareness of health, safety, human and organizational performance, and environmental compliance, and to drive change necessary for continuous improvement.
  • Provides EHS expertise, guidance, advice, and support to a wide variety of internal stakeholders; interfaces with departments and individuals as appropriate to ensure corporate, divisional, and local objectives are met and maximizes synergies within the businesses regarding procedures, metrics, communications, assessments, site steering committees, etc.
  • Implements action plans to meet budgets and performance goals; measures performance and reviews and reports progress.
  • Provides site EHS leadership for a 12–18 month assignment; the assignment requires the candidate to be physically onsite during that time period; during the assignment, the successful candidate will lead EHS staff.
  • Maintains competency, knowledge level, and contacts within the professional community, agencies, and local organizations.
