About The Position

The ASR Group® family of companies make up the world’s largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar. The ASR Group® portfolio includes the leading brands Domino®, C&H®, Florida Crystals®, Redpath®, Tate & Lyle®, Lyle's®, Sidul® and Whitworths®.  ASR Group® companies also produce and market Tellus®, a single-use, compostable tableware and foodservice product made from plant fibers, including sugarcane.        OVERVIEW The Corporate Environmental Director is responsible for global strategic planning, policy development, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws. Furthermore, it involves providing technical support and overseeing environmental initiatives across all ASR locations.   The Corporate Environmental Director will need to collaborate closely with several departments, including Legal, Risk, Operations, and Engineering, to ensure we achieve and maintain environmental compliance successfully. Their ability to work cross-functionally will be essential in meeting our environmental goals and upholding our commitment to environmental compliance.

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience directly or indirectly related to environmental management of multiple sites.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Must have strong regulatory knowledge in federal, state and local regulations within the U.S, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Portugal.
  • Experience in managing environmental regulatory issues successfully at multiple facilities/sites.
  • Experience with creating, implementing and maintaining strategies and compliance programs.
  • Understanding of process technologies and compliance variables related to management of stormwater wastewater, air emissions, and waste generation/storage.
  • Experience with Title V, SPCC, NPDES, and wastewater treatment operations.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to recognize areas for Continuous Improvement strategies; recommend and implement CI strategies as assigned.
  • Ability to utilize ERP information and analyze results
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality of proprietary business information.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, including the ability to prioritize, work within assigned deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively to accomplish organizational objectives.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining quality & accuracy standards.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook on an Advanced Level.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing, fostering strong lines of communication across the business.

Nice To Haves

  • BS Degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field from an accredited college/university.
  • Advanced degree from an accredited college/university a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Environmental strategic pillar owner (inclusive of development of regulatory strategies for operational permits, obtaining operational permits and representing the company during negotiations with regulatory agencies on permit conditions, variances or other environmental areas).
  • Support assessments of environmental impacts, liability avoidance, and assurance for existing or new technologies for business.
  • Support, deliver and/or create as needed Environmental training programs to support corporate policies and initiatives.
  • Assist in environmental due diligence on potential acquisition, joint ventures or other strategic future transactions.
  • Preparing and publishing or presenting technical papers, reports and policies to business unit(s)/group management.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the Environmental function and associated activities.
  • Supervision of direct report(s) and leadership of the Environmental organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct regular meetings with direct reports to keep them informed of current problems, changes and new developments in the department and company.
  • Monitor work productivity, recommend, as well as implement changes to improve work productivity.
  • Plan and monitor workload for timely and accurate completion.
  • Coordinate workflow and procedures to maximize service.
  • Coach and counsel direct reports on performance issues.
  • Complete annual and semi-annual (where appropriate) performance appraisals for all direct reports in a timely manner.
  • Arrange for cross training of teams to maximize productivity and provide coverage of all functions.
  • Counsel direct reports on educational and job opportunities which will enhance their career development.
  • Complete time off approvals and scheduling for coverage as needed.
  • Administer all policies and procedures set forth by ASR Group.
