Candidates considered for this position must live within driving distance to the Omaha Metro area. This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 1-2 days per week in office. Under the supervision of senior legal counsel, this position is responsible for researching, analyzing, preparing, and communicating legal issues to help BCBSNE achieve its operational and strategic goals. This position requires an understanding of the legal and regulatory environment concerning the Company’s business. Represent BCBSNE and its business operations with stakeholders and external audiences.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor and 2+ years of progressive experience working in a law firm, legal department of a corporation, or in a capacity requiring delivering legal services to clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in health insurance, employee benefits law and/or litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze, provide advice, and respond to legal questions submitted by other attorneys, management, officers and employees regarding various areas of the law related to the operations of a health insurance company.
  • Review, revise, and draft contracts and documents related to the health insurance business in a manner that is legally prudent, compliant with laws, and best serves the customers and strategic interests of the Company.
  • Analyze and interpret state and federal legislation and its effect on company operations.
  • Counsel management regarding legally defensible positions and risks and assist management with understanding of new or changing legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Obtain and maintain knowledge of the regulatory environment governing the conduct of the Company’s business sufficient to professionally advise management, officers and employees, including, as applicable, PPACA, HIPAA, ERISA, state insurance laws, and other state and federal laws.
  • Other duties as assigned, including management or handling of litigation matters and managing outside counsel involvement in legal matters.
