About The Position

Pinewell Capital is seeking a Corporate Controller to oversee accounting and financial reporting across its portfolio companies. This role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while supporting internal reporting and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate is highly organized, process-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with multiple operating companies. Depending on the size and structure of each portfolio company, the Controller may oversee internal accounting teams or serve directly as the primary accounting lead. This role requires someone who enjoys building systems and improving processes to reduce manual work. Success in this role will involve improving the consistency, accuracy, and efficiency of financial reporting across portfolio companies while reducing manual reporting processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within manufacturing or multi-entity operating environments.
  • Experience working with accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero).
  • Advanced Excel skills required; experience with Power Query / Power BI strongly preferred.
  • Ability to support budgeting and forecasting processes and analyze financial performance.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to interpret financial data.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with various cost accounting methodologies.
  • Experience implementing or upgrading ERP systems preferred.

  • Exposure to private equity portfolio reporting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting and financial reporting across Pinewell portfolio companies, coordinating with internal accounting teams where present and directly maintaining books for certain smaller operating companies
  • Serve as the primary accountant for certain portfolio companies that do not have dedicated internal accounting staff, including maintaining books, overseeing close, and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage general ledger integrity, reconciliations, and monthly close processes.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Consolidate and review financial information from portfolio companies and prepare reporting packages for management and board meetings.
  • Conduct variance analysis and assist leadership in understanding financial performance.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders as needed.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline accounting and reporting processes through automation, improved systems, and standardized reporting across portfolio companies.
  • Design and implement standardized accounting and reporting processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and visibility for management.
  • Leverage tools such as advanced Excel, Power Query, or reporting automation to reduce manual reporting and improve data visibility.
  • Support fund-level administrative and reporting requirements as needed.
