About The Position

MAHEC seeks a strategic, relationship driven Corporate and Foundation Partner to lead institutional fundraising efforts that advance our mission to improve health, education, and access to care across Western North Carolina. This position manages a portfolio of corporate and foundation funders, develops compelling proposals, and secures philanthropic investments that support MAHEC’s priorities in education, clinical innovation, workforce development, and community health. The Corporate and Foundation Partner plays a key role in strengthening MAHEC’s visibility among regional and national funders, cultivating long-term partnerships, and aligning institutional giving with organizational priorities. This role requires exceptional writing skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate across departments to translate programmatic needs into fundable opportunities.   • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, public administration, development, business, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience securing and stewarding five and six figure grants or gifts from corporations and foundations.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in donor management systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge NXT, Salesforce) preferred.
  • Spanish speaking skills preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, higher education, public health, or nonprofit development.
  • Experience working in a complex, multi‑site organization or academic health system.
  • Experience developing proposals and reports for foundations and corporations.

Responsibilities

  • Institutional Fundraising Strategy & Portfolio Management Lead MAHEC’s corporate and foundation fundraising strategy to secure significant annual support.
  • Manage a portfolio of institutional prospects, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Develop multi‑year institutional giving strategies aligned with MAHEC’s mission and organizational goals.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews and participate in moves management meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely funder records, projections, and activity tracking in the donor database.
  • Expand MAHEC’s portfolio of general operating and multi‑year institutional funders with a focus on sustainable partnerships.
  • Proposal Development, Writing & Reporting Lead the development of high-quality‑ proposals, concept papers, letters of inquiry, and grant reports.
  • Provide editorial oversight to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with funder expectations.
  • Partner with program directors, faculty, clinicians, and leadership to develop compelling cases for support.
  • Work closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs to facilitate special project grant completion.
  • Ensure all proposal materials reflect MAHEC’s brand, voice, and strategic priorities.
  • External Relationship Building & Visibility Cultivate and steward high value‑ institutional relationships in partnership with the CEO, Director of Development, and executive leadership.
  • Increase MAHEC’s visibility within regional and national corporate and foundation networks.
  • Identify opportunities for MAHEC leadership to participate in panels, conferences, convenings, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Represent MAHEC at funder meetings, events, and community gatherings as an ambassador for our mission.
  • Cross‑Team Collaboration & Organizational Alignment Collaborate with the Development team to integrate institutional giving with major gifts, alumni engagement, and community partnerships.
  • Partner with organizational leaders and the Office of Sponsored Programs to identify funding opportunities, developing project proposals and applications, accepting and managing awards and reporting to funders.
  • Work with Marketing & Communications to develop institutional giving materials and impact reports.
  • Participate in Development team planning, goal setting, and quarterly KPI reviews.
  • Support a culture of philanthropy across MAHEC by educating staff and faculty on institutional fundraising best practices.
  • Forecasting, Data Management & Operational Support Partner with the Development Associate and Finance team to develop and manage institutional giving forecasts, revenue projections, and performance dashboards.
  • Monitor trends and recommend corrective strategies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including funder files, deadlines, and reporting calendars.
  • Ensure confidentiality of funder information and adherence to ethical fundraising standards.
  • Stay informed about regional health needs, workforce challenges, and MAHEC’s strategic priorities to inform funder alignment.
