Job Summary: Core faculty are responsible for advancing the clinical, educational, and scholarly missions of the Family Medicine Residency Program. Faculty provide direct patient care for a portion of their professional effort while primarily focusing on resident education and development. This role includes supervision of Family Medicine residents in the outpatient clinic and as assigned, in inpatient settings at Mary Washington Hospital and affiliated nursing facilities. Core faculty actively engage in scholarly activity, including mentoring residents in Quality Improvement initiatives and other scholarly projects. In addition, faculty serve as general advisors and mentors, supporting residents’ professional growth and career development. Core faculty also lead and deliver required curriculum essential to residency education and program success.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACGME-accredited Family Medicine residency, or on-track to graduate in the summer
  • Board certified by the ABFM or AOBFP or on track to sit for Boards
  • Virginia medical license
  • Board certified by the ABFM or AOBFP or on track to sit for Boards

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in medical education or extracurricular activities that demonstrate this interest
  • DO degree and interest in practicing OMT
  • Interest in the following special areas: Women’s health, Prenatal care/Obstetrics, including seeking privileges to deliver, Sports medicine, Addiction medicine, and Community health.
  • Interest in the following procedures: LARC, POCUS, injections, skin procedures, and other common Family Medicine outpatient procedures.
  • ACLS, NRP, ALSO, PALS, Nexplanon

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Family Medicine residents in ambulatory and inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Lead, develop, and deliver required residency curriculum, including didactics, workshops, and educational conferences
  • Complete resident evaluations, feedback, and competency assessments in accordance with GME timelines
  • Participate in required residency meetings and educational activities essential to program operation
  • Engage in ongoing scholarly activity
  • Advise and mentor residents on Quality Improvement projects, patient safety initiatives, research, or other scholarly work
  • Support resident academic development and fulfillment of ACGME scholarly requirements
  • Serve as a general advisor and mentor for residents, supporting professional development, wellness, and career planning.
  • Contribute to residency program administration, accreditation activities, and continuous program improvement as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Other duties as assigned
