About The Position

The Village Coordinator monitors activities at the Tiny Homes Village and maintains a safe environment for all the residents. This position also provides emergency coverage as needed and works closely with other Village staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of combined experience working with homeless populations and/or experience working with a high-risk populations or own lived experiences.
  • Beginner computer skills in Word and Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to write incident reports.
  • Ability to work any assigned shift, including weekends, evenings, graveyard and holidays.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people with sensitivity to cultural, race, gender, mental health and class issues, and a demonstrated commitment to low-income housing and ending homelessness.
  • Effectively conveys and receives ideas, information and directions.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must complete a criminal history and background inquiry prior to and periodically throughout employment.
  • Must have a minimum of two years documented recovery from substance or chemical dependency issues; or no prior history/diagnosis of chemical misuse, abuse or dependency.
  • Must remain substance abuse free.
  • Employee is subject to a drug screen before hire and randomly throughout employment or for reasonable suspicion during employment.
  • Must demonstrate a sensitive to and knowledge of Native American customs, traditions and culture.
  • Must maintain appropriate and ethical boundaries with program patrons.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to use effective teaching and modeling methods while interacting with program patrons.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to remain calm while working in crisis situations.
  • Must deal with the public in a tactical, pleasant and courteous manner.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain a commitment to respecting the confidential nature of the program.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and other relevant Puyallup Tribal policies.
  • Effectively incorporates confidentiality into daily work habits.
  • Must be willing to attend training and classes as recommended and directed by Supervisor.
  • Required to maintain a predictable and reliable schedule during required work shift.
  • May be required to cover other shifts as required by supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience work providing assistance/services clients in a Native American community.
  • Valid Unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License and proof of insurance preferred. If employee does not have a valid Driver’s License, must be able to provide proof of reliable transportation to arrive on time for work for each scheduled shift.

Responsibilities

  • Build effective relationships with residents.
  • Foster a safe, clean and peaceful environment in the Tiny House Village.
  • Assist residents in completing move-in and move-out paperwork.
  • Monitor individuals entering and exiting the village.
  • Maintain logs and complete incident reports.
  • Accept donations and update inventory tracking.
  • Provide an on-site presence in the village, provide assistance to the villagers, enforce rules and guest policy.
  • Monitor activities, safety and security in the village, including monitoring cameras.
  • Serve on team providing 24/7 staffing.
  • Monitoring the people as they enter and exit the site and completing a daily log.
  • Observes and completes incident reports on all non-criminal incidents in writing to management.
  • Assist with deterring theft, violence, vandalism, illegal activities or infractions of rules, and code of conduct.
  • Performs daily maintenance duties, including removal of garbage, keeping common areas clean and maintaining supplies in bathroom and other general areas.
  • Performs groundskeeping duties such as yard maintenance.
  • Assist in setting up village meetings and assign daily and weekly duties to be performed by villagers.
  • Prepare vacant units including light maintenance, painting, unit repairs, cleaning, and coordinating with vendors in a timely manner that requires PPE.
  • Maintain inventory of basic supplies and order supplies, including kitchen supplies.
  • Responsible for preparing and cooking meals and snacks during shift times.
  • Cleans kitchen as needed.
  • Respond to villagers’ concerns and questions.
  • Provide info and feedback to Referral Coordinator and Director on on-going operations and the welfare of residents.
  • May be required to document case notes, incident reports, referral assistance, or other documents to assist residents or management.
  • Remains alert throughout shift.
  • Responsible for sign in and out of visitors and escorting visitors throughout building when required.
  • Completes required daily log for each shift.
  • Must understand building safety protocols and implement when needed.
  • Responsible for completing department’s emergency lockdown procedures when needed.
  • Must be able to use a two-way radio to communicate with Village staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
