About The Position

Florida A&M University's Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Coordinator, Student Affairs vacancy. The Coordinator, Student Affairs is a professional staff member dedicated to helping undergraduate, graduate and professional students meet the behavioral expectations and succeed at the University; The Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution at Florida A&M University and assists in resolving alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct and University Housing policies involving undergraduate and graduate students; The Coordinator provides student behavior programs and services that support 3,000+ on-campus residents and promotes practices and procedures that support students' wellness and interdependence, and encourages mindfulness related to the wellbeing of self and of others living together in the campus community; The Coordinator, Student Affairs will be responsible for administering student conduct case management procedures, educational initiatives, and student outreach; and when an allegation is reported, the Coordinator will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation, act as a neutral party and provide a detailed, unbiased report regarding the findings of the investigation. The Coordinator may also serve as a secondary conduct officer. Essential functions include but are not limited to: Maintain working knowledge and compliance of direct service, management, and strategic/policy functions aligned with the University as well as industry processes and best practices; Collaborate with the Director of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution to ensure that the University's processes, responses, and policies are consistent with federal and state laws and Florida Board of Governors regulations; Serve as hearing officer to determine responsibility and sanctions for student conduct violations, including housing violations; Ensure student completion of imposed sanctions and monitor student disciplinary probation requirements; Conduct a prompt, equitable and impartial administrative investigation into complaints, alleged policy violations, including identifying and interviewing and interviewing parties; Gathering and assessing relevant information to the investigation; Applying policies; Advising all participants of their due process rights; Assist in determining and assessing the student conduct process, learning outcomes, and conflict resolution services; Actively foster and maintain a climate that is supportive of students and respectful of differences; and conduct presentations addressing departmental and student development issues. Maintain due process and a learning-centered, restorative justice philosophy when sanctioning and engaging in the conduct process; Identify trends and patterns relevant to student behavior and assist in the development of training to address; Coordinate and collaborate with relevant campus departments as needed to support departmental goals, ensure seamless operations, and to facilitate service-learning opportunities for responsible residents to fulfill sanction requirements and assist in student behavior initiatives; Communicate, interpret and enforce department and university standards and policies; Co-coordinate (with University Housing) annual review and revisions of residential living guidelines in the Student Code of Conduct; Analyze and report data on issues relevant to division strategic priorities; Work collaboratively with the Residence Education Coordinator in reviewing the effectiveness of Residential Education Services while making recommendations for improvement; Develop and maintain effective working relationships with campus and community partners to promote community standards, civility, conflict management and resolve complaints; Continuously identify and integrate best practices in student conduct and investigations; and, perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two of years of related experience; or a master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
