About The Position

The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a Coordinator, Student Accessibility Services position. This position is responsible for supporting a comprehensive university-wide effort to ensure that all students with documented disabilities are provided with the support they need to have access to all university programs and academic opportunities. This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and holds the responsibility of serving as a mandatory reporter for all Clery Act crimes. The University of North Georgia will not be sponsoring any new H-1B visas until further notice

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of office and administrative practices and principles; strong working knowledge of providing reasonable accommodations as defined by Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Strong knowledge of Assistive Learning Technology, including hardware and software for students with disabilities.
  • Requires working knowledge of most computer office software, including BANNER, Windows, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent customer-service and interpersonal skills; outstanding organizational and time-management skills; and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Two years experience working with students with disabilities, special education, or disabilities services.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes and facilitates the retention and access of all students with disabilities through active and focused engagement. Promotes the services of SAS to the university community through various communication strategies. May have to proctor some tests and monitors and promotes the note-taking system, the Peer mentoring system, the student data base, and the overall office operations and organization.
  • Supports campus-wide programs and services for all students with disabilities. Assists by reviewing requests, documents, and eligibility for academic accommodations.
  • Communicates information about program services to faculty, staff, students, and guests with disabilities to ensure programmatic and physical access to the university. Educates the university community about the issues affecting students with disabilities through periodic seminars, workshops, and other appropriate means, including but not limited to forums, speakers, classroom presentations, and orientations.
  • Periodically attends professional conferences, workshops and trainings to stay current on issues affecting students with disabilities. Serves on division and university committees as designated. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • May need to travel to other university campuses to provide support. Monitors and advocates for universal design, addresses and advocates during American Disabilities Act conflicts and promotes services that make the campus more accessible.
